ThiS!!! IRS ADVOCATE is the correct answer...
And believe me, I've went through it last year, complicated problems but the website always got sent to the "did you plug your computer in"? eg the stupid people's help that can tell when taxes need to be filed by, thanks, but no thanks.
The IRS sent me a thing where they told me I hadn't paid my taxes. Eventually called the advocate, told her and she told me that was a computer glitch don't worry about it. So the IRS has a computer glitch that suggests to me I'm in deep doodoo but don't bother to tell me it's a glitch? Point being that the advocate does have that information, they are the gatekeepers to finding that person in the IRS who knows what they are talking about.
And that's what happened, I had a fairly complicated problem, the advocate deemed it as such and I got through they put me in touch with that person who knows what's going on and things got resolved. all those IRS websites are designed (not really) to take are of the 99% stupid stuff, eg, tell you when you'll get your stimulus check (last year) Marque dos para Espannol! (grrrrrr)
